Posted by: Ryan 2 years, 2 months agoHey guys, I'm reporting live from the Paramount films' panel at Comic-Con. It was just announced that Peter Cullen, the voice of the 1980's cartoon version of Optimus Prime, will be reprising his role for the big screen version next summer. So so happy. Maybe Michael Bay does know what he's doing...

July 21, 2006, 8:34 p.m.ilgbf, if you don't know...Do a search, or rent a few seasons of the 80s "Transformers" cartoon, even the other "Transformers" movie would give you some idea.

July 21, 2006, 10:16 p.m.Live action? kick A$$! If they scored the original Optimus, then they've gotta go after the original Starscream. 'Nuff said.

July 21, 2006, 11:22 p.m.The original voice of Starscream would rule, but they'd have to do a seance for the recording. Chris Latta unfortunately died in 1994. He also voiced Cobra Commander (letting the geek flag fly here.)

July 22, 2006, 3:24 a.m.Starscream's voice in my mind wasn't as memorable as Optimus's.
Did anyone ever watch the cartoon movies on VHS? Dudes...I grew up worshiping this show (along with GI Joe). I got an Optimus prime one year from christmas and it was the best christmas present I EVER got.
For the dude who doesn't know what an Optimus prime is...get a clue and why are you posting here if you don't have one yet?

July 22, 2006, 10:08 a.m.Truly sad news. For those who fail to appreciate it, his voice was the very antithesis to not only Prime's unquestionable tone of confidence and authority, but a perfectly consistently caustic challenge to Megatron at nearly every turn. Finally, when any of his schemes to not only destroy Autobots but also usurp any amount of power hoisting himself closer to overthrow Megatron would fail, his screams of rage were absolutely classic, a better tragically failing villain I could not imagine being produced. For those who can't remember him, think in terms of say a Grimer Wormtongue(LOTR) or a far less subtle and far more annoying Zartan(GI JOE).
For me, his and Soundwaves struggles at carving power away from Megatron, in addition to some of the Utopian morality that goes on in almost any war of races you could find in their stories( for children no less!) made for some of the most entertaining animated fare I've ever witnessed.

July 22, 2006, 10:08 a.m.I just read about optimus prime on wikipedia. I grew up in the transformer era also. In fact two of my computer names are megatron optimusprime on my network and the laptop is named brainysmurf. I learned wayyyyyyyy too much on wikipedia . I didn't know that OP had that many lives. I was just G1 transformer fan, I was totally unaware of all the other stuff including comic books and how big it was in Japan. But the old Optimus Prime voice was smooth.

July 22, 2006, 11:53 a.m.Too bad we can't turn into little kids again and go see this when it comes out... I hope it's not geared towards kids these days and it more geared towards being a good "all-around" action movie but I'm not getting my hopes up.
