We all need meaning in life; it is our nature as humans. It is important for us though, to be careful where we look for it. To most, the idea of a "spiritual atheist" doesn't make much sense, yet it what I call myself. The meaning that I find in life is subjective meaning; it is the spiritual emotion that I experience from listening to the Grateful Dead, observing the Earth's natural beauty, or tripping on mushrooms. Subjective meaning is personal, what is pleasing to you is something that no one else can define; don't let anyone tell you otherwise. However it is important to distinguish between subjective spirituality and objective reality. The meaning we find in life belongs to us alone, because we individually make it meaningful. We don't need to believe that this meaning exists independent of our individual reality to find it meaningful, and when we fail to make this distinction, we run in to trouble.
